She then started taking riding lessons and competed for several years in Western Pleasure All-around with her first horse, a Quarter Horse gelding, named Hottie. Once she was in high school, she became very active in the FFA, showing market steers at the local county fair and competing in Meats Evaluation and Horse Judging competitions. Her riding career continued when she entered college at California State University, Fresno as she was an active member of the Equestrian team competing in the Reining discipline.
Dr. Coyes knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in working with large animals. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science at California State University, Fresno. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, she attended Oklahoma State University where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoyed the mid-west way of life, however after veterinary school she wanted to return home to California to be closer to family and friends.
Her primary professional interests include equine internal medicine, reproduction, and preventative care.
Beyond the veterinary world she enjoys spending time with friends and family, her two cats, Buster and Panda, and trail riding with Hottie. After taking a long break from showing to focus on finishing school and developing her career, she hopes to one day get back into the competitive horse show ring.
